The kids have been out collecting conkers (horse chestnuts) this weekend. At this time of year there is the luxury of picking the best, freshly fallen, shiniest ones. We have a bag full. So many that all sibling bickering about who has more is dispatched. Their eyes widened, their hoarding tendency satiated by this bountiful harvest. What exactly we are going to do with these inedible nuts I am not sure. My daughter tells me it will involve glitter. My son is more intent on scattering them and then picking each one up. With chopsticks. Slowly.
It reminds me to think about regular chestnuts and give the kids their first experience of roasted chestnuts. On a cold day, what could be better?
